Gas System Controller Classroom Trainees - Temporary

We are looking for Gas System Controller trainees for our upcoming paid training program.

SUMMARY

Gas System Controllers are the key communication link between field personnel, corporate staff, customers, and interconnects. Gas Control & Scheduling is essential to our business and operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

The trainee program will be held primarily weekdays during regular business hours but will require some shift work as the training progresses.

Trainees will be employed by a temporary agency in a temporary capacity for a period of up to 90 working days. Trainees will be required to successfully complete structured training modules and operator qualifications, meet attendance requirements and demonstrate proven skill building to continue in the program. Individuals who successfully complete the program will be evaluated on their performance upon completion.

Individuals who successfully complete the program may be offered full time employment with Iroquois.

As a trainee individuals will not be eligible for Iroquois benefits. The temporary agency offers health benefits after a 30- day waiting period.

  • Using SCADA to monitor gas pressures, flows and quality. Operational Control of our natural gas transmission pipeline, including natural gas receipts, natural gas deliveries at 24-meter stations, and operation of 7 compressor stations to ensure adherence to safety regulations.
  • Continuously evaluate system status, ensure safe operation, respond to emergencies / abnormal conditions, dispatch Field and/or emergency personnel as needed, optimize system capacity, respond to customer requests, and maintain accurate data.
  • Gas Scheduling responsibilities to process and assist customers with all gas scheduling related questions, concerns, and requests. Confirm, authorize, and schedule five daily nomination windows with interconnects and serve as Transportation Services Coordinator after hours, weekends and in their absence.
  • Accountable for emergency response as it pertains to gas control including immediate & appropriate action, effective investigation, reporting of emergencies and responding well under pressure.
  • Shift work includes 12-hour shifts in a 24hour/7day/365 Days a year operation.
  • Responsible for standby coverage and overtime to meet operational requirements. Flexibility with schedules changes as required.
  • Attention to DOT regulations, especially Control Room Management (49CFR 192.631), for compliance in operation of our pipeline.
  • Must complete DOT Operator Qualification Program for Gas System Operations
  • Directs customers to adhere to terms and conditions of the Tariff.
  • Assists in systems testing and commissioning.
  • Must be able to work independently and with other team members.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Gas System Controllers work in a secure locked-down isolated gas control room for extended periods of time. They will be required to watch computer screens in order to monitor gas line data and communicate with field personnel related to gas operations. The schedule for this position will be 12-hour individual rotating shifts including working nights, weekends, holidays, and be on-call.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Associates (AS), BA/BS degree or equivalent technical/vocational school or equivalent work experience.
  • Highly dependable individual who is willing to work in the future on 12 hour rotating shifts (days, over-nights, weekends, holidays) in a restricted control room environment.
  • Excellent judgment and analytical reasoning skills; negotiation skills.
  • Strong background in the use of computer systems and databases. Familiarity with computer control system operations and remote communications technology a definite plus.
  • Ability to use numbers as tools in analyzing data and solving problems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate detailed information accurately and work in a high functioning team environment.
  • Understanding of the scientific/hydraulic/technical aspects of gas transmission a plus.
  • Sequential thinking, multivariate problem solving and the ability to think on one’s feet in new and first-time situations.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently when necessary.
